Effortless Line and Shape Art Lessons for F-10 Classrooms

CampFire is a classroom-tested collection of ready-to-teach F–10 Visual Arts and Media Arts units featuring connected Line and Shape art lessons. Each year-level unit provides 10 weeks of connected learning which can be shortened or lengthened.

Why this Drawing Toolkit works

Art planning should not consume your weekend

When you teach several year levels, the challenge is not finding one more Art activity. It is knowing what to teach next, how to build skills over time and how to connect short lessons with meaningful art-making.

The Drawing Toolkit provides a clear year-level pathway while leaving room for your own teaching style, classroom needs and creative decisions. Each CampFire unit supports approximately one school term, giving students a steady rhythm to revisit Line and Shape through:

✓ short Core Skills drawing lessons
✓ artist and artwork learning
✓ hands-on and digital Studio Work
✓ short quizzes
✓ discussion, reflection and presentation

Students are not expected to create a polished artwork after one demonstration. They practise, revisit and apply what they learn in different ways throughout the term, with short instruction sitting alongside longer project work so everyone can progress at their own pace.

Overwhelmed with Planning Art?

About Sylvia founder of I Love To Teach 101 and creator of the Drawing Toolkit F-10

Hi, I’m Sylvia.

I have been a primary teacher for more than 20 years and an F–12 Visual Arts specialist for 10 years. I know what it is like to plan for many year levels, search for genuine progression and spend Sunday night preparing another week of lessons.

I also know what it is like to spend your own money on resources, hoping they will work with real students and real classroom timetables.

I created the Drawing Toolkit because I wanted a clear, practical pathway that helped students build genuine skills while still allowing teachers and students to be creative.

The Drawing Toolkit is the approach I use in my own classroom. It is structured enough to guide the learning, but flexible enough to suit different students, materials and teaching situations.

If you teach one year level or many and want a calmer pathway through the term, CampFire was made for you.

Core Skills

Ten short, interconnected Line and Shape mini-lessons combine drawing practice, artist learning and digital techniques. Mini-Lessons 4, 7 and 10 include a quick sketch and a 10–15 minute quiz, keeping each mini-lesson within approximately 20–30 minutes.

Studio Work

One quick warm-up task and three connected projects: clay, painting and digital art. Each main project generally runs for approximately three hours. Clay comes first so drying, firing and glazing can continue while students begin the later projects.

Drawing Toolkit Campfire Grade 3 Hearts Project
Artwork by Sylvia Skinner

The Drawing Toolkit was created by a practising Australian Art teacher who understands real classrooms, limited preparation time and the challenge of teaching many year levels.

CampFire gives you a calm, ready-to-teach pathway into Line and Shape. It helps students build confidence through observation, practice, artist learning, meaningful art-making and reflection.

You do not need another folder of disconnected activities. You need a clear place to begin and a pathway you can continue using.

CampFire is the first of four standalone Drawing Toolkit collections. Each collection explores a different concept journey, allowing teachers to begin with the one that best suits their students. See the full Drawing Toolkit pathway.
