  • Middle School wooden pillars outside N2 need to be painted in some way – might be good for product 1, experimenting
  • Primary Tunnel under the bridge in the adventure playground needs painting with some fantasy idea – good for product 2
  • Outside the primary toilets massive wall.
  • Art room end wall
  • Ladies staff toilets

You need to get permission.
Need to write a proposal as part of your skills to the Board and our School Principal.

Each product must be accompanied by a 10 page Folio of 1000 words documenting your creative process.

Type 2: Inquiry 20%

Complete one 2000 word investigation including artists’ ideas & techniques as well as a critique of their work and your personal evaluation of their aesthetics & your learning:

  1. Visual Arts in a Social-cultural context: using contemporary examples of visual artworks, discuss how visual artists have responded to changes in their society.

or

  1. Methods & Media: Explain how visual artists integrate a variety of media in making their works.

Include a detailed and varied bibliography of primary and secondary sources ie exhibition visits, books, reviews, institution & artists’ websites, journal articles etc; No Wiki references. Document sources correctly.

Type 3: Skills 30%

Select a medium and explore. Document 12 different techniques.

Provide 12 pieces of evidence that demonstrate personal exploration, development and application of skills specific to MURALS. This must also include your analysis and evaluative response. (2000 words or 12 minute recorded oral).

For example:

  • Stencilling (Banksy, Joshua Smith etc)
  • Freehand aerosol (Robo etc)
  • Paste ups (Peter Drew)
  • Traditional mural techniques (Harring etc)
  • Relief work (Brian Robinson)
  • Interactive pieces (before I die movement) Tiana look up adventure playgrounds.

The research undertaken during your investigation should help inform some of your practical skills.

Artists & Technique Ideas

Type 1: Product 50%

Products are based on the selected media below:

  • Photography
  • Photoshop
  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Ceramics

Your second product can be an extension of the medium chosen for your first product.

For example product 1 and folio may focus on black/white photography, while the 2nd product focuses on macro photography.

Likewise you may decide to choose two different techniques. For example product 1 and folio could be photography, while your 2nd focusses on ceramics.

You may even like to create multiple small works which could then be sold to raise money for charity. Your 2nd product in this case would be the marketing strategy eg; Poster design for your Stall.

For example if you choose photography you may include examples of:

  • Manual functions
  • lighting
  • low light photography
  • composition, & so on….

If you choose ceramics, you may include example of:

  • coil building
  • slab building
  • glazing techniques
  • decorating techniques: incising, applique, sgraffito, stencilling, stamping
